CT (Computerised Tomography) Scan
CT scans take detailed images of the internal structures of the body non-invasively. They use computers and rotating x-ray machines to produce images in more detail than an x-ray. CT scans show soft tissues, blood vessels and bones. Most commonly, the scans are taken of the brain to assess for stroke, brain injury and tumours.
Other parts of the body can also be scanned to diagnose conditions such as damage to bones, assess for injuries to organs and check for problems with blood flow. The scan can take anywhere between 10 and 30 minutes.
